QUESTION: What is the value of real-time LED messaging? ANSWER: Real-Time LED messaging is a very key part of an operations way to communicate messages from the executive and management team of the plant, down to the shop floor workers and operators. Whether its productivity improvements, throughput improvements, efficiency and uptime improvements, what is key to the management team is to post those targets to the plant floor, allowing operators to see what’s expected of them and what’s expected by plant management. It also provides a level of accountability for the operator so that they understand that everything is being monitored and what the expectations are for them. A good example of this actually is a local automotive company that basically had specific jobs that were on the shop floor and they were able to provide targets through LED messaging to the operators. Within a matter of a few days after providing these targets, they saw a marked improvement in productivity throughput. Operators on a real-time basis knew what was expected of them and they were able to adjust their speeds and meet the expectations just by having simple green and red messages being communicated to them in real-time as they did their work. |
